LOTUS SŪTRA Also available through   or through the RSS feed.The Lotus Sūtra is one of the most influential and venerated Buddhist Mahāyāna sūtras. It is the main scripture on which the Tiantai, Tendai, Cheontae, and Nichiren schools of Buddhism were established. In this chapter, Edward becomes increasingly more frustrated that the author depicts Lord Buddha as advising that the reader disregard all of Theravada Buddhism. This frustration is what promted him to purchase Tipikata, the Pali Scriptures, and to focus on early Theravada instead for the next several years, rather than letting Dhammapada alone suffice as a synopsis of the first several hundred years of early, original, Buddhism i.e. the actual teachings of Lord Buddha. For a time, these 16 episodes were removed from the "Buddhist Books" Podcast, but in the end Edward decided to include them. Not all of the commentary is negative, and there are gems in it to be found. Though he is not proud of how he comes across, being quite critical of a document considered sacred by many, and which serves as the foundational document for so many branches of Buddhism, he decided to allow the episodes to be seen and heard anyway.
